THERAPY FEES
Therapy Fees & Insurance Made Simple
Clear pricing, out-of-network support, and sliding scale options, so cost never blocks healing.
You have done the hardest part already, deciding to seek help.
The last thing that should stand between you and healing is confusion about what therapy costs or whether your insurance will cover it.
At Dancing Dialogue, we believe financial transparency is an extension of the trust we build in the therapy room. You deserve to know exactly what to expect before your first session, not after.
We are an out-of-network practice, which means we do not bill insurance companies directly. But that does not mean your insurance cannot help. Many clients with out-of-network mental health benefits receive significant reimbursement from their plans, and we provide everything you need, including detailed invoices called superbills, to make that process straightforward. We also offer a sliding scale for those who qualify, because access to quality psychotherapy should not depend solely on income.
Whether you are coming to our Union Square office in Manhattan or our Cold Spring location in the Hudson Valley, you will find the same commitment to clarity and care around fees. Our administrative team is available to walk you through your options, answer questions about your specific insurance plan's out-of-network benefits, and help you understand what your real out-of-pocket cost is likely to be. We want you focused on your growth, not on guessing what you owe.
Our Services
Dancing Dialogue offers individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy across our two locations in New York City and Cold Spring.
Our therapeutic approaches include dance/movement therapy, creative arts therapy, EMDR, and other somatic, trauma-informed modalities.
Each service is tailored to the person or people in the room, their history, their nervous system, their goals, rather than delivered as a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Session fees vary depending on the type of service, the clinician, and the length of the session. When you reach out to us, we will provide you with the specific fee for the service and therapist that best fit your needs. There are no hidden charges and no surprise costs. What we quote is what you pay per session, and we discuss fees openly before treatment begins so you can plan with confidence.
As an out-of-network provider, we collect payment at the time of your session and then furnish you with a superbill, a standardized receipt that includes all the diagnostic and procedural codes your insurance company requires to process a reimbursement claim. Many PPO and out-of-network plans reimburse a substantial portion of therapy costs once you have met your deductible. We encourage every prospective client to call the member services number on the back of their insurance card and ask about their out-of-network mental health benefits before their first appointment.
For clients who face genuine financial hardship, we offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis through a brief, respectful conversation. Our goal is simple: if this work is right for you, we want to find a way to make it possible.

Start Therapy With Financial Clarity
How You Benefit
-
Financial ambiguity creates anxiety, the exact opposite of what therapy should do. At Dancing Dialogue, we discuss fees openly and specifically before you ever sit down for a session. You will know the cost of your individual, couples, family, or group therapy appointment ahead of time, and that number will not change without a conversation.
This transparency is especially important in New York City and the Hudson Valley, where the cost of living already demands careful financial planning. Many therapy practices in Manhattan bury their pricing or make you schedule a call before revealing any numbers. We take a different approach because we believe clarity is a form of respect. When you contact us, our team will share the fee associated with your specific service and clinician so you can make an informed decision on your terms, not under pressure.
Knowing your financial commitment upfront also allows you to plan for the long term. Therapy is most effective when it is consistent, and consistency requires a fee structure you can sustain. By being honest from the start, we help you commit to a therapeutic relationship that can actually do its work, week after week, without the stress of wondering what the bill will be.
-
Navigating insurance reimbursement can feel like a second job. We make it easier. After each session, we provide you with a superbil, a detailed, coded invoice that you submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. The superbill includes your therapist's credentials, your diagnosis codes, CPT procedure codes, and all other information your carrier requires.
Many clients with PPO plans or out-of-network mental health benefits are surprised to learn how much they can recover. Depending on your plan, reimbursement can cover a meaningful portion of each session's fee once your annual deductible is met. For New York-based clients, many employer-sponsored plans and marketplace plans include out-of-network behavioral health benefits that go unused simply because people do not know they exist or find the paperwork intimidating.
We also encourage you to ask your insurance company a specific set of questions before starting therapy, questions about your deductible, your reimbursement rate, and any session limits. Our administrative team can guide you on exactly what to ask, so you have a realistic picture of your out-of-pocket cost from the very beginning. You should not have to become an insurance expert to get the care you need, and we are here to bridge that gap.
-
We recognize that not everyone can afford full-fee therapy, and we do not believe that financial constraints should prevent someone from getting the help they need. Dancing Dialogue offers a sliding scale for clients who qualify, making our services more accessible to individuals and families across New York City and the Hudson Valley.
Sliding scale eligibility is determined through a straightforward, judgment-free conversation. We ask about your financial situation, and together we find a fee that reflects both your circumstances and the value of sustained therapeutic work. This is not a lesser form of care, clients on a sliding scale receive the same clinicians, the same session length, and the same depth of attention as every other client in our practice.
In a city like New York, where the cost of quality mental health care can feel prohibitive, sliding scale access is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Many of the people who benefit most from creative arts therapy, EMDR, and somatic approaches are those who have been underserved by traditional systems. We are committed to keeping our doors open to them. If cost is the reason you have been putting off therapy, we encourage you to reach out. A conversation about fees should never feel like a barrier; it should feel like the first step toward getting started.
-
One of the most frustrating parts of seeking therapy is discovering that a practice you love only offers one type of service, forcing you to start over somewhere else when your needs evolve. At Dancing Dialogue, we offer individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy, all under one roof, at both our New York City and Cold Spring locations.
This matters financially because it means your investment in building a therapeutic relationship pays dividends across your life. A parent who begins with individual therapy can transition into family therapy as their child grows. A couple working through relational conflict can complement their joint sessions with individual work. A client who benefits from one-on-one EMDR can eventually join a group for ongoing support at a different price point. You do not have to start from scratch each time your needs shift.
Our fee structure reflects this flexibility. Different services carry different fees, and our team will clearly explain the cost of each so you can choose the combination that fits your therapeutic goals and your budget. Having access to multiple modalities within one trusted practice is both clinically effective and financially efficient, especially in New York, where the search for a new therapist can take weeks or months.
-
Whether you live in Manhattan, commute through Union Square, or make your home in the Hudson Valley, you can access Dancing Dialogue's services without uncertainty about cost. Our Union Square West office is steps from multiple subway lines, making it accessible from across New York City. Our Cold Spring office on Route 9D serves Putnam County, Dutchess County, and the broader Hudson Valley region.
Both locations operate with the same commitment to transparent pricing and the same out-of-network and sliding scale policies. You will not encounter different fee structures depending on which office you visit. This consistency is intentional; we want you to choose your location based on convenience and comfort, not financial guesswork.
For clients who split time between the city and the Hudson Valley, or for families where one member sees a therapist in Manhattan and another in Cold Spring, this unified approach simplifies everything. One practice, one set of policies, one administrative team that knows your name and your plan. The logistics of therapy should support your healing, not complicate it.
-
Calling a therapist's office to ask about money can feel vulnerable. You may be unsure what questions to ask, worried about being judged for your budget, or anxious about discovering that the help you need is out of reach. At Dancing Dialogue, our administrative team is trained to handle financial conversations with the same compassion and patience that our clinicians bring to the therapy room.
When you reach out, you will speak with someone who can clearly explain our fee structure, walk you through the out-of-network reimbursement process, discuss sliding scale eligibility, and answer any questions you have, without pressure and without judgment. We understand that for many people, especially those who have been let down by previous therapy experiences, the intake process itself can feel like a test. It should not. It should feel like the beginning of a relationship built on honesty.
This level of administrative care is especially important for parents navigating therapy for a child, for couples where partners may have different insurance plans, and for individuals managing the financial complexity of chronic illness alongside treatment costs. We meet you where you are, financially and emotionally, because both matter.
How We Help
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a one-on-one collaborative relationship between you and a trained therapist focused on your personal growth, emotional healing, and psychological well-being. At Dancing Dialogue, individual sessions may integrate movement, creative expression, EMDR, and other somatic approaches tailored to your goals. Available at both our New York City and Cold Spring locations.
Family Therapy
Family therapy views the family as an interconnected system where each person's well-being affects everyone else. Our therapists work with parents, children, and adolescents together to address relational patterns, communication breakdowns, and the emotional impact of life transitions. Sliding scale availability applies to family therapy as well.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is a collaborative process where you and your partner work with a trained therapist to strengthen your relationship, resolve conflicts, heal wounds, and build deeper connection. Sessions are designed to help both partners feel heard while developing practical tools for communication and intimacy. Fees are discussed clearly before your first appointment.
Group Therapy
Group therapy brings together a small number of people facing similar challenges, facilitated by one or more trained therapists. Groups offer a unique therapeutic experience, the chance to feel seen and supported by others who understand. Group sessions are typically offered at a different price point than individual work, making them an accessible complement to other services.
Our Process
STEP ONE
Reach Out and Ask Your Questions
Contact us by phone at (845) 265-1085 or email at assistant@dancingdialogue.com. Our administrative team will answer your questions about fees, explain how out-of-network reimbursement works, and discuss sliding scale eligibility if needed. There is no obligation and no pressure; this conversation is simply about giving you the information you need to make a confident decision. Most inquiries are answered within one to two business days.
STEP TWO
Understand Your Insurance Benefits
Before your first session, we recommend calling your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits. Key questions include your annual deductible, your reimbursement rate for outpatient psychotherapy, and whether there are session limits. Our team can guide you on exactly what to ask so you get clear answers. This step typically takes one phone call and gives you a realistic picture of your out-of-pocket cost.
STEP THREE
Begin Therapy With Full Financial Clarity
Once you understand your fee and your insurance coverage, you schedule your first session at our New York City or Cold Spring location. Payment is collected at the time of each session. After your appointment, we provide a superbill, a detailed, coded receipt that you submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. From this point forward, the financial side is handled, and you can focus entirely on the work that matters.
STEP FOUR
Receive Ongoing Support as Your Needs Evolve
As therapy progresses, your needs may change, you might move from individual to family therapy, add group sessions, or adjust your frequency. At each transition, we revisit fees together so there are never surprises. If your financial situation changes, we are open to that conversation too. The goal is a therapeutic relationship that is sustainable for you in every sense.
Our Approach
At Dancing Dialogue, our approach to fees and insurance is grounded in the same values that define our clinical work: honesty, compassion, and respect for the whole person.
We know that the financial side of therapy can feel impersonal or even adversarial, particularly in New York, where the cost of mental health care is a significant concern for individuals and families at every income level. We refuse to treat it that way. Financial conversations are relational conversations, and we handle them with care.
We are an out-of-network practice by design. This allows our clinicians to provide the kind of therapy that actually works, sessions that are the right length, treatment plans that follow your pace, and modalities like dance/movement therapy, creative arts therapy, and EMDR that are not always covered or understood by managed care systems. Being out-of-network means your therapist's clinical decisions are guided by your needs, not by an insurance company's protocols. It also means we can offer the depth and flexibility that many of our clients, especially those who have been let down by previous therapy experiences, are looking for.
At the same time, we recognize that out-of-network care requires more financial planning from you, and we take that responsibility seriously. Every fee is communicated clearly. Every superbill is provided promptly. Every question about reimbursement is answered with patience. And for those who need it, our sliding scale ensures that financial hardship does not become a closed door.
Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself, your child, your partner, or your family, whether you are in Union Square or Cold Spring, you will find a practice that treats your financial well-being as part of your overall well-being. We believe that when you feel secure about what therapy costs, you are free to do the real work of healing.
Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy Fees & Insurance
Dancing Dialogue is a creative arts therapy practice founded by Dr. Suzi Tortora, with offices in Union Square, Manhattan, and Cold Spring in the Hudson Valley. We specialize in dance/movement therapy, creative arts therapy, EMDR, and somatic, trauma-informed psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
-
Being out-of-network allows our clinicians to make treatment decisions based entirely on your needs, not on what an insurance company approves. This means your therapist can use the modalities, session lengths, and treatment pacing that are right for you, including specialized approaches like dance/movement therapy, creative arts therapy, and EMDR. Many clients with out-of-network benefits still receive meaningful reimbursement from their insurance plans.
-
A superbill is a detailed receipt we provide after each session. It includes your therapist's credentials, your diagnosis code, the CPT procedure code, and session details, everything your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim. You submit the superbill to your carrier (usually by mail, fax, or through your insurer's online portal), and they reimburse you directly based on your plan's out-of-network benefits.
-
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits. Key questions include your annual deductible, your reimbursement percentage for outpatient psychotherapy (CPT codes 90834 and 90837), and whether there are session limits. Our administrative team can help you prepare for this call if you are unsure what to ask.
-
Sliding scale eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis through a brief, respectful conversation with our team. We consider your financial situation and work together to find a fee that makes sustained therapy possible. There is no formal application; simply let us know when you [reach out](/contact) that you would like to discuss sliding scale options.
-
Our fee policies and sliding scale availability are consistent across both locations. Specific session fees may vary by clinician and service type, and our administrative team will provide you with exact pricing for whichever location and therapist fits your needs. You can reach us at (845) 265-1085 or assistant@dancingdialogue.com.
