DANCE/MOVEMENT THERAPY

Your Body Knows
the Way to Healing

At Dancing Dialogue, we help you reconnect with your innate strength and find peace within.

Dance/Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process that furthers emotional, physical, and psychological integration.

Unlike dance classes or fitness programs, our work creates a safe therapeutic container where your body's natural expressions become a language for healing.

You don't need to be a dancer.

You don't need to perform steps or learn choreography. Dance/Movement Therapy is about honoring the felt sense of your experience, allowing sensations and emotions to move through you in ways that feel authentic and freeing. It's therapy that begins where traditional talk therapy sometimes cannot reach: in the wisdom of your living, breathing, sensing body.

Our licensed creative arts therapists and board-certified dance/movement psychotherapists are trained in both traditional psychotherapy and the specialized art of reading and responding to nonverbal communication. We see what your body is expressing, even when words fall short.

How Dancing Dialogue Approches Dance/Movement Therapy

Where Body Meets Mind for Lasting Change

While many therapeutic practices speak of the mind-body connection, we believe in something more profound: the body-mind connection.

This isn't just semantics. It's a fundamental shift in how we understand healing.

Your body doesn't simply follow your mind's lead. Your body is where experiences live, where memories are stored, where emotions arise before you can name them. At Dancing Dialogue, we start with what your body knows and let that wisdom guide us toward understanding, integration, and peace.

The Dancing Dialogue Difference

Founded by Dr. Suzi Tortora, Dancing Dialogue brings together a team of exceptional clinicians who are not your ordinary therapists. Each member of our team is an expert in embodied and creative therapy, while specializing in approaches that reach the parts of you difficult or impossible to express in words alone.

Our clinicians work with:

Dance/Movement Therapy
Art Therapy
Couples & Family Therapy
Play Therapy
Trauma & Preverbal Trauma
Infant Mental Health & Attachment Issues Across the Lifespan

Whether you connect with Dr. Tortora, whose incredible work has shaped the field internationally, or with any member of our compassionate team, you'll receive care from someone who understands that healing happens through movement, creativity, and the therapeutic relationship itself.

We Address What Others Cannot

Our practice specializes in challenges that live deep in the body: preverbal trauma, attachment wounds, experiences that happened before you had language to describe them. We work with concerns that resist traditional approaches, offering pathways to healing through sensory experience, creative expression, and attunement to your body's inherent wisdom.

Your body, your story, your pace.

How Dance/Movement Therapy Nurtures Healing & Transformation in Your Life

The benefits of Dance/Movement Therapy reach far beyond the therapy room. When we work with your body's innate capacity for expression and healing, transformation ripples through every aspect of your life.

Emotional Regulation & Inner Peace

Learn to recognize and respond to your body's signals with compassion. Find calm in your nervous system. Discover that you can feel difficult emotions without being overwhelmed by them. Through gentle movement and creative exploration, you develop the capacity to stay present with yourself, even in challenging moments.

Support for Neurodivergence & Developmental Differences

We have deep expertise working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and developmental delays. Our approach honors different ways of experiencing and moving through the world, using movement and creative expression to support communication, self-regulation, and social connection.

Trauma Recovery & Post-Traumatic Growth

Trauma lives in the body, often in ways that talk therapy alone cannot reach. Our specialized approach to trauma treatment honors your experience while creating pathways for your nervous system to release what it's been holding. Whether you're healing from recent events or addressing wounds from early childhood, we meet you exactly where you are.

Attachment Healing Across Generations

From infants to adults, attachment shapes how we relate to ourselves and others. Through attuned movement and relational attunement, we help repair early attachment wounds and create new patterns of secure connection. Parents discover new ways of being present with their children. Adults learn they can trust relationships to be sources of nourishment rather than pain.

Stress Reduction & Embodied Presence

In a world that constantly pulls us into our heads and away from the present moment, Dance/Movement Therapy offers a refuge. Through mindful movement and somatic awareness, you learn to inhabit your body with ease, to breathe more freely, to find moments of genuine peace in your everyday life.

Medical Trauma & Chronic Illness

Having innovated Dance/Movement therapy programs in major medical centers, our team understands the unique psychological impact of medical procedures, chronic illness, and life-altering diagnoses. We help individuals and families find ways to feel empowered and expressive, even in the midst of difficult medical journeys.

Enhanced Self-Awareness & Authenticity

When you learn to listen to your body, you discover parts of yourself that have been waiting to be heard. Clients often describe feeling more themselves, more confident, more able to trust their intuition and make choices aligned with their true needs and values.

Family Healing & Relational Repair

Families move together in patterns, often repeating cycles from generation to generation. Through family Dance/Movement therapy, we help families discover new ways of being together, communicating, and supporting one another through creative movement experiences that strengthen bonds and foster understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dance/Movement Therapy

  • Not at all. Dance/Movement Therapy isn't about performing, learning steps, or being a "good dancer." Many of our clients come to us precisely because they feel disconnected from their bodies or uncertain about movement. We meet you exactly where you are, honoring whatever feels natural and safe for you. Some sessions might involve gentle swaying, simple gestures, or just noticing sensations while sitting still. Your comfort and safety always come first.

  • Every session is unique and follows your lead. You might engage in creative movement exploration, talk about what you're experiencing, create art, or work with rhythm and music. Our therapists are trained to read your nonverbal cues and attune to what you need in each moment. Sessions can include individual work, family movement experiences, or collaborative activities that help you explore and express what's alive in you. There's no "right way" to do this work, only your way.

  • We work with people of all ages, from infants to older adults, and address a remarkably diverse range of concerns. Our specialties include trauma and preverbal trauma, infant mental health, attachment issues, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, medical trauma, developmental differences including autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, family conflict, parenting challenges, grief and loss, emotional regulation difficulties, and life transitions. If you're struggling with something that feels stuck in your body or resistant to traditional talk therapy, our approach may offer the breakthrough you've been seeking.
