Dr. Renee Ortega is a Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, and Certified Occupational Therapy Practitioner who enjoys and specializes in working with children across the lifespan who have complex trauma, emotional disturbance, or sensory processing issues.
She supports multicultural family systems to foster more cohesion inside and outside of the family structure, bringing deep cultural awareness to her therapeutic work. Her therapeutic approach incorporates EMDR, mindfulness, multi-modal treatment approaches, and CBT. Dr. Renee helps families and children discover renewed strength and connection through body-based healing that honors each family's unique cultural context.
With a PhD in International Psychology, Dr. Renee brings specialized training as a Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, Certified Occupational Therapy Practitioner, and certification in Sensory Integration and Praxis Testing (SIPT). She is a qualified administrator for the Intercultural Developmental Inventory (IDI) and is EMDR trained. She also supports clients dealing with complex trauma, sensory processing challenges, and anxiety.
The work Dr. Renee does and the expertise she brings doesn't just come from years of schooling, training, and working. It's personal. It also comes from her passion to transform and support children and families in ways that her family wasn't resourced to manage the disparities they faced. "I know my clients well because at some point on my journey, I was my client. Which makes my passion for this work and providing the best care a reflection of the type of care I would want for my own family."
Dr. Renee hopes that clients will find a renewed sense of purpose, quality of life, compassion, authenticity, integrity, and open heartedness during and after their work together.
Outside the therapy room, Dr. Renee loves dancing and traveling with her daughters, being on the water in a kayak or on the beach, and spending time with those she loves enjoying sunrises and sunsets.
Dr. Renee's expertise comes from both professional training and lived experience, bringing an authentic understanding of the challenges multicultural families face when navigating systems that weren't built with their experiences in mind.
Her unique combination of dance/movement therapy and occupational therapy credentials allows her to address both emotional regulation and sensory processing challenges, creating comprehensive treatment plans that support the whole child.
With specialized training in cultural competency and international psychology, Dr. Renee brings deep awareness of how cultural identity, family systems, and community contexts shape children's experiences and healing journeys.
"I hope that clients will find a renewed sense of purpose, quality of life, compassion, authenticity, integrity, and open-heartedness during and after our work together."
