American Psychoanalytic Association 2013 National Meeting | Psychotherapy Technique and Process (New York, NY)

  • Waldorf Astoria Hotel New York (map)

Topic: Two Day Clinical Workshop #4: Psychotherapy Technique and Process Part 1

Presenters: Larry Sandberg, M.D., Beatrice Beebe, Ph.D., Suzi Tortora Ed.D, BC-DMT

This workshop will introduce psychoanalytic clinicians to a novel, ongoing multi-modal treatment that was catalyzed by an impasse during an intensive psychotherapy of a severely disturbed woman with gaze aversion. The insufficient role of an interpretive focus led the analyst (Larry Sandberg) to engage a colleague with expertise in infant research and video feedback (Beatrice Beebe) who has used the latter intervention bimonthly to advance the treatment. In addition, weekly dance movement psychotherapy (Suzi Tortora) has provided an additional – largely nonverbal and embodied – strategy to facilitate deepening psychic growth, integration and an amnesis. The treatment team will present their clinical work.

When: Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 4:30 – 6:30 PM Part 1
Thursday, January 17, 2013, 4:30 – 6:30 PM Part 2
Participants are expected to attend both days
